Digital Disconnect

The Sunday of 25th September 2016 was my Digital Disconnect day. This day is also known as the most boring day of my life. The main reason for this is that I am usually using my computer and the internet most of the time for any typical day.

Here is my story; the first step that I took prior to this experimental day was to switch off my smart phone before going to bed on Saturday 24th September 2016. The reason for this is because there was no doubt that when I would wake up on Sunday, the first thing to do would be checking my notification and message as part of my daily habit. For my digital disconnect day, I had to implement a solution to overcome that habit of mine.

Sunday, I woke up at around 5:00 a.m. to do my morning prayer and then went back to sleep. Usually, I would have stayed awake and do some other activities but for this day, I decided to go back to sleep again. The thing is that when I go back to sleep after my morning prayer, I usually sleep till noon.

I woke up again around 12:15 and got myself prepared. I went to the noon prayer and got back home to take lunch. After that, my boring day finally started, I didn’t know what to do next. Watching television? Use my computer? Hell no, as both are part of the digital world. The remaining time of the day, I was like “What the hell am I doing? Is doing the digital disconnect activity so important? Is it worth ruining one productive day of my life?”. The answer was simple, I needed to write something interesting for my blog. Based on my own perception of people, I believe people love when misfortune happen to others so they would be interested to know how bad my day was.
It was around 14:00, I was in my room and the only thing I could see was my computer. In my mind, I could hear “Use me, I know you want to”. So not knowing what to do, I tried to sleep again. It was not long before, I said “I’m done” and then I went to ask my parent if they had planned to go out today. So, around 15:30, my parent and I went out and paid visit to our relative in Terre-Rouge. We left our relative’s place before dinner and went to have dinner at Elizabeth.co, a fast food restaurant in Port-Louis. We returned home at around 9:30, I went to my room and was like “now what?” as I usually go to sleep around 2:00 a.m.

This Sunday was the time in my life, since I attained adolescence, that I went to sleep before 11:00 p.m. After reading all this, you are probably asking “why is this a boring day?” and the answer is that I hate going to my relative, it like having nothing to do except sitting and waiting and doing all the formalities of the society.
